Hyde (Pronounced in Japanese: Hai-do, or in English as "Hide", b. January 29 1969, in Wakayama, Japan) is the lead singer for the Japanese rock band L'Arc~en~Ciel. Since Hyde keeps his personal information secret, much about him is either unknown or unofficial (including his real name, which is rumored to be Hideto Takarai, and his birthdate). He joined L'型敏Arc~en~Ciel in 1992 after leaving another band called Jerusalem's Rod where he was the guitarist.

In addition to being the lead singer and main lyricist of L'卜圆枝Arc~en~Ciel, Hyde has solo projects, as well as his own record label under Sony Japan called Haunted Records.

History

Solo history

After L'Arc~en~Ciel released the single "Spirit Dreams Inside"腔手 in 2000, the band went on an unofficial hiatus as each of the members began work on solo careers. This was Hyde's debut as a solo artist. In October of 2001, Hyde released his first solo single, "Evergreen." After two more singles, "Angel's Tale" and "Shallow Sleep," Hyde released his first solo album, Roentgen, on March 27, 2002. An overseas edition featuring English lyrics was released in July of the same year.

After the expressive, artistic ballads of Roentgen, Hyde's next two singles, "Hello" and "Horizon," released June and November of 2003 respectively, returned to his rock roots. Hyde's second solo album, 666, was released on December 3, 2003. It provided a dramatic contrast to Roentgen and the two albums became viewed as counterparts.

In 2003, Hyde starred alongside Gackt in the Japanese film Moon Child. In a duet as part of the project, Hyde and Gackt sang "Orenji no taiyou". The song was also released on Gackt's fourth full-length album, Crescent. In December of 2003, Hyde's song "Shining Over You" from his 666 album was used as the commercial song for Namco's Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.

L'Arc~en~Ciel revival

After a three-year hiatus, L'Arc~en~Ciel astonished their fans with a series of seven concerts titled "Shibuya Seven Days" in June and July 2003. At the conclusion, they announced a new album, Smile, which was released in March, 2004.

In the summer of 2004, L'Arc~en~Ciel had their North American debut (as part of their Smile tour) in Baltimore, Maryland, at Otakon. The concert was viewed as a triumphant success, with a crowd of 12,000 fans.

L'Arc~en~Ciel's next album, Awake, was released in June of 2005. It was accompanied by a Japanese Awake tour in August of the same year. During this tour, Hyde created controversy with his costumes, which were obvious social commentaries. A second, larger tour titled Asia Live 2005 was held shortly thereafter. The single "Link" was released in July of 2005.

Return to solo work

In the summer of 2005, Hyde composed the music for the song "Glamorous Sky." The song was used in the movie Nana, another film based on a popular manga by Ai Yazawa. The song was sung by fellow Japanese artist Mika Nakashima and the lyrics were written by Ai Yazawa. In August, Hyde and his solo band performed the song on Music Station with Mika Nakashima, Hyde being on guitar.

The single "Countdown" was released on October 5th 2005, with a tracklisting including Japanese English versions of the song "Countdown" made for the Japanese release of the movie Stealth and also a special rock version of "Evergreen" (originally from Roentgen).

Later that month, Hyde hosted Halloween of the Living Dead, a three-night event held at Club Citta on October 29th, 30th 31st. Each night featured performances by Hyde himself, a guest artist/band and Jack-O-Latern. Artists/bands who took part in the Halloween performances are Monoral, UVERworld, Olivia Lufkin, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR, Yasu (of Janne Da Arc), Mika Nakashima. The group Jack-O-Latern consisted of Hyde and the group Monoral playing many Halloween favorites such as the Ghostbusters theme.

Starting in January 2006, Hyde's single "Season's Call" was used as the second opening theme to the anime show [[Blood+]]. This single was released on February 2, 2006. Hyde's album, Faith, was released on April 26th, 2006.

International career

Faith was accompanied by a five-month tour with many locations in Japan, some exclusively open to members of his fanclub.

After signing on with Tofu Records as a solo artist, an US debut concert was scheduled as part of the Faith tour, which was held at Slim's in San Francisco, California on July 5, 2006. Tickets for the event went on sale online at 1 p.m. EST on April 2, 2006 and sold out in an astonishing three minutes. The second round of sales was held April 9, also online, and also sold out quickly.

Soon afterward, rumors began circulating in the fan community of a second concert, to be held at House of Blues in Anaheim, California, on July 2. The rumors remained unconfirmed for a week before the event was announced officially. Like the San Francisco venue, the second concert also sold out, as did two more US concerts (the Fillmore, San Francisco and House of Blues, Hollywood).

The overseas version of Faith was released on June 27, 2006 and included a bonus DVD featuring music videos for both "Countdown" and "Season's Call".

Hyde also made a brief appearance at the Tofu Records booth at Anime Expo 2006 in Anaheim, California on July 1 for a question and answer panel.

Following the completion of the FAITH tour, a DVD of the concerts was announced and was released November 8th, 2006.

HYDE is currently back with L'Arc~en~Ciel as they embark on a special tour across Japan for their 15th Anniversary.

Trivia

Hyde keeps much of his personal information secret, including his real name and birth date.

It is said that his real name is Hideto Takarai, but the name Doi Hachiro was given by tetsu because the name Hyde (pronounced Ha-i-do in Japanese), when reversed, becomes Do-i-ha.

Fans have a general belief that his birth date is January 29, 1969. It is still unknown if this is his official birthday.

Hyde is not mixed-race, he is pure Japanese.

He was the guitarist in the band Jelsarem's Rod before being recruited as the vocalist of L'Arc~en~Ciel.

HYDE ( born on January 29, 1969, in Wakayama, Japan, real name rumored to be Hideto Takarai) is the lead singer for the Japanese rock band L'Arc~en~Ciel. Since hyde keeps his personal information secret, much about him is either unknown or unofficial. His height is said to be 5'2", or about 156cm. He joined L'Arc~en~Ciel in 1991 after having been a part of another band, Jerusalem's Rod.

In addition to being lead singer and main lyricist of L'Arc~en~Ciel, HYDE has worked on a self-titled solo project as well, and has his own record label under Ki/oon of Sony Japan, Haunted Records.

On December 25th, 2000, he departed from Japan's most eligible bachelors list and married Megumi Oishi. They have one child together, a boy, but because HYDE is a very private celebrity, speculations about his personal life and family are discouraged out of respect.

L`Arc~en~Ciel REVIVAL

At the conclusion, they announced a new album, 'SMILE', scheduled to be released March of 2004. hyde returned to his position of vocalist as part of L'Arc~en~Ciel and the band released another two albums together, 'Smile' in March of 2004, and 'Awake' in June 2005.

In the summer of 2004, L'Arc~en~Ciel held their North American debut concert at Otakon anime convention in Baltimore, Maryland as part of their 'SMILE' tour. The concert was viewed as a triumphant success, with a crowd of 12,000 fans.

RETURN TO SOLO WORK

In the summer of 2005, Hyde composed the music for the song GLAMOROUS SKY, used in the movie NANA, another film based on a popular manga by Ai Yazawa. The song was sung by fellow Japanese artist Mika Nakashima and the lyrics were written by Ai Yazawa. In August, Hyde (and his solo band) performed the song on Music Station with Mika Nakashima, Hyde being on guitar.

The continued work with L'Arc~en~Ciel prompted doubts as to whether Hyde would be continuing as a solo artist. hyde responded to these doubts with a vigorous return to his solo career. The single COUNTDOWN was released on October 5th 2005, with a track listing including Japanese and English versions of the song COUNTDOWN made for the Japanese release of the movie Stealth and also a special rock version of EVERGREEN) (originally from Roentgen).

Later that month, hyde hosted HALLOWEEN OF THE LIVING DEAD, a three-night event held at CLUB CITTA on October 29th, 30th 31st. Each night featured performances by hyde himself, a guest artist/band and JACK-O-LANTERN. Artists/bands who took part in the Halloween performances are MONORAL, UVERworld, OLIVIA, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR, Mika Nakashima. hyde是一个蛮多才多艺的主唱,他的嗓音爆发力十足兼具细腻阴柔质感,是L'Arc-en-Ciel的一大特色.从出道至今,他们所有歌词几乎都是由hyde一手包办,他曾经说过就算别人的词写的比较好,还是希望能演唱自 己写出来的词.不过他作词的功力,真的很厉害!无论是早期的作品,还是后期的作品,hyde的词都作得流畅、优雅,象叙事诗般的风格.除了作词外他偶尔负责作曲,或是在现场演出中,负责一些乐器的演奏.历年来,他用过的乐器有口琴、萨克斯、铃鼓(这也可以……算吗)、吉它,也曾经担任鼓手的工作(在演唱会中交换团员的游戏里).

hyde小时侯就被当作女孩子对待,因为兆滚者妈妈十分喜欢女孩子.所以小时侯hyde经常都是穿着女孩子的衣服,提着红色书包上学(又一个入江直树？).令人羡慕的是在小学低年级的时候他有很多"女朋友",但却非常爱哭.每次提到自己小时侯爱哭的故事,hyde都会觉得很不好意思.父亲看到儿子有些懦弱,还曾让小hyde学习过少林功夫!还达到"上级"的水平.这种经历让他充满自信.在六年级的时候被选为"最风趣的同学",也拥有了一大堆的族薯朋友.除了有关音乐的这些,hyde也很有画画的天分,从小时候开始就常常一个人在画画,甚至还曾立备乎志当画家呢!即使是现在从事音乐工作的他,平时还是会动手画画.不过后来发现自己有些"色弱"而放弃了当初的梦想.

hyde的爱好非常广泛,平常喜欢自己做做料理,喜欢在睡前读书,有时弹弹吉它,还有萨克斯和口琴,喜欢收集兰色的玻璃制品.hyde很喜欢吃东西,闲时总是在吃着什么.连tetsu都说"hyde好象总是肚饿,录音的时候饿,去外面的时候饿,演唱会的时候还是饿……".平时hyde喜欢吃寿司、日本拉面、饺子、甜瓜、咖喱等等.

虽然不象ken那样显而易见,hyde却也是个烟鬼(平均每天1-2包).

hyde的童年

柔弱的hyde!幼稚园的时候,一天最多可以哭三次。

「很羞呢!我从前是位『大喊十』啊!往幼稚园去的时候,一天总会哭一、两次。在我记忆之中,最多曾试过一天哭三次。真是很羞家的事。」hyde剖白自己的童年。

另外他的幼稚园同学是这样说 :「他只要受到轻微碰撞又或者是责骂两句,便会轻易哭起来。而且大家印象中的他比女孩子更脆弱呢!」

在和歌山市内经营日式酒吧『APPLE』的hyde妈妈也是这样说 :「对,他上学的时候,总是被朋友作弄哭著回家。爸爸因为十分担心他的情况,所以小学五年班时便带他去学习少林寺拳法。」

父母因为经营日式酒吧十分忙碌的关系,放学回家后hyde总是独个儿留在家中。「不过我从没感到寂寞啊!因为我会画画呢!我认为是上帝赐给我绘画这样才能。在画簿上每张纸都是画满图画的。」

hyde可能是天生的艺术家型少年,相信没有人会否认吧!

幼稚园每年都会举行游戏大会或体操大会等活动。活泼的小朋友玩游戏时,总会率先站出来带领其他小朋友在运动场上开心奔跑。

不过幼稚园老师却这样忆述当时的hyde :「我从来没有见过他满身泥泞的样子,他总是手执画簿,独个儿在静静绘画。幼稚园生的图画大多数都是不合比例,手、足会较普通的长一点。但是,他的画却没有这种情况出现。他对事物的平衡十分有心得呢!而且绘画时对自己的选材取舍亦非常清楚。他对於绘画真是特别有天份。」

hyde忆述当时的自己说 :「那时自己只有绘画是最自豪的事,所以每天在家中只会拼命绘画,很少和朋友出外玩耍。」

童年立志成为画家的hyde,即使升读小学后,满脑子都只是绘画这回事。

「在画簿绘画之前,我会先构想自己心目中的世界。然后再思考怎样表达的时候,已经是整天时间了。在记忆中星期天很少出外玩耍呢!数学、理科的课堂,当我无心听老师讲解,心中只感苦闷的时候,脑袋裏便会浮现出一大堆有关绘画的事呢!」

这位对绘画异常喜爱的少年,当然会对漫画世界有一份憧憬。而他写作小学毕业文章时,也是一些有关自己对漫画的感想。

hyde很喜爱大自然。入黑后希望可以独个儿跑到山上或海滩,细数天上的星宿。升读中学之后,hyde的行为开始改变,变得开朗起来。

「到了星期天,我便会约三五知己,一起踏单车远足或者露营。到达目的地后,我们会燃起营火,烧香肠和马玲薯来吃。那种露营生活太令人响往,所以一有空便会放下一切往郊外去。」

由街道踏二十分钟单车便会抵达宽阔茂密的森林。

那时常常跟hyde露营的朋友这样说 : 「我们烧的东西很美味呢!没有大人的世界,我们彷佛有逃离现实的感觉,重返原始时代。所以经常会远足露营呢!hyde真是位浪漫的人,做食物、吃食物、远眺夜空景色时,总是沉默寡言,独个儿陶醉在自己的世界之中呢!」

那时的hyde因为时常跟朋友远出的关系,所以身上总爱穿军服。「露营的时候心身已跟大自然溶在一起。远离日常生活压力,自己内心相当享受这种悠然自得的生活。」

有次,hyde远出经过一条斜坡的时候,他因为速度太快而碰向一幅墙,结果最后严重受伤。

「大家踏单车经过一条斜坡的时候,有人提议试试胆量,打赌谁人可以冲往斜坡的尽头而不用拉『Brake』。结果hyde到最后也没有拉『Brake』,但换来后果是正面撞向附近人家的墙身,从单车抛出车外。一时间,hyde毫无反应,吓到大家半死。嘛~~结果他并没有大碍,但当hyde决定了一件事,他便会毫不动摇,坚持到底呢!!」

从幼稚园时代就是一个很爱哭的人,"不管是什麼事情,反正只要先哭就对了"(本人谈)因为HYDE妈妈一直想要一个可爱的女孩子,结果怀胎十月后生下来果然是一个很漂亮的宝宝,不过....是男的............................

小学三年级时,hyde爸爸妈妈开了一家茶店apple.小小的很可爱,园子去看时已经关店了,不过现在门面还是存在著,那时候一开始是一家茶店后来就转变成为小型club的型态..(地址是:合歌山市松江东2)有去的人可以拍照留念,顺道一提,hyde的爸爸妈妈都是附近邻居公认的帅哥美女档,当年因为家里反对他们结婚,后来才到大阪结婚生下了hyde.

小学(河西中学)六年级的时候,hyde认识了一个十分要好的朋友.有一次下课HYDE在学校画画的时候,他忽然接近他称赞hyde画的很好,也介绍了宫崎骏的画给hyde看,结果就

这样子认识了,后来也因为hyde常常跟天生开朗的他聊天,久而久之hyde也转变为一个开朗活泼的小孩,一转以往的个性.

进了中学之后,hyde有一次跟朋友为了要去录影结果要烤肉,因为没有钱肚子又很饿,结果就到超级市场去偷了肉来烤,一直到现在还是觉得很愧疚那家老板.(HYDE谈)高中生活是过的十分惬意的,有时就会跟著一些朋友到山上.海边去聊天看星星.这对现在的hyde来说真是一件十分美好的回忆.高中三年级时,决定了自己将来想要从事美术这一方面的人生,后来在跟老师面谈的时候老师也非常赞赏他的能力.就这样hyde在1983年4月的时候进入了大阪的高中教育课程并设的美术学校就读.

也就是从这时候开始留长发.进去时学长们都对他十分的照顾,也有一些学长是在玩乐团的,就是从这时期开始hyde因为学长的缘故跟音乐慢慢的就有一些接触点,也都会去看学长们练团,有一次hyde去练团的时候一时兴起跟学长借了吉他试谈.就这样发现了吉他的音色美妙,加上那里离自己家又近,后来每个星期就都会跑到学长家练习吉他,也因为这样hyde第一次感受到除了绘画外音乐世界的魅力.(HYDE谈)

后来在一次的团练下学长就请他唱歌看看,第一次拿起麦克风的hyde感到十分的不自在,而且也不晓得要怎麼样唱好,后来学长就说将你心中的东西唱出来就行了,hyde就照著学长的说法开始唱,后来感受到一种内心的充实感,甚至於觉得自己生来就是要唱歌的,后来hyde就一边工作一边开始玩乐团,与pero加入了jelsarem's Rod.参加了许多场的live,这时候的美貌也广为被地下乐团所流传,hyde也开始了个人的创作颇受好评,后来就卡在到底要为了面包而放弃音乐,还是要为了音乐而穷困而烦恼不已(HYDE谈)最后决定在大阪放手一搏,先闯荡一阵子再说....在大阪决胜负....1990年以hyde为主的音乐活动就在大阪正式展开了.谁知....在不久的后来....我们的tetsu大人就这样与hyde戏剧性的见面了....

这又是一部改编自名著的音乐剧。原著《化身博士》(The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde)出自与狄更斯同芹备雀时代的英国著名作家史帝文生的笔下，讲述受人尊敬的科学家杰克医生喝了一种试验用的药剂，在晚上化身成邪恶的海德先生四处作恶，他终日徘徊在善恶之间，其内心属灵的内疚和犯罪的快感不断冲突，令他饱受折磨。这种貌似荒诞无稽的故事其实蕴含了最深刻的人性命题：人，到底是是简简单单黑白分明一成不变的非善即恶，还是既善亦恶，时善时恶？“变身怪医”也是文学领域中众人皆知的艺术形象。

这部音乐剧最初是1990年在美国休士顿公演的，甫一推出便获巨大成功，曾在35个城市进行巡回演出，并于1997年4月登陆百老汇Plymouth剧院。此剧的荣誉除了四项东尼奖提名外，还有其主演罗伯特古齐奥尼(Robert Cuccioli)所获得的最佳戏剧男演员奖，最令人瞩目的当属本剧的当家女主演林达伊德(Linda Eder)获得的戏剧世界百老汇首演大奖。伊德是百老汇的当家花旦，在国内音响发烧友中的口碑极佳，她和“让阿冉”韦尔金森一起录制的音乐剧CD《变身怪医》是又一张广受推崇的人声试机天碟。

不过，这些著名的演员均没有出现在这张DVD里，它的主演是美国电视剧《海滩游侠》的主角大卫哈斯霍夫，凭心而论，哈斯霍夫的工作态度很认真，表演也非常卖力，尤其是末尾那首反映杰克医生内心善恶交战的歌曲，需要演员瞬间变换表情和声音，哈斯霍夫的表现可圈可点。然而，认真的工作态度并不就能保证顶级的演唱水准，如果你听过韦尔金森的录音，又不是哈斯霍夫的铁杆影迷的话，十有八九会对我们“游侠”的嗓音有些失望。

第一幕：1885年，伦敦。杰克医生是年轻而富有成就的医学研究人员，正在为他父亲无法治愈的精神病而极度苦恼，杰克固执地相信：凭他药物学上的造诣，他能把人的善良与邪恶两种要素分离开来，这是每个人内心中都存在且不断斗争的两种要素。杰克在圣失德精神医院的非常保守且缺乏同情心的理事嫌早会上，他提出需要用活人验证他的理论。他的请求遭到一致否决，理事长凯鲁爵士--他未来的岳父投了弃权票，理事会认为杰克是过于危险且激进的人物。杰克当律师的朋友阿特森很同情他。凯鲁爵士为女儿艾玛与杰克举办了富丽堂皇的定婚招等会，杰克竟迟到且毫无抱歉之意。阿特森为帮助杰克摆脱烦恼，硬拉着他去了东都码头区的"红鼠"小酒吧。酒吧女郎露丝遭酒吧老板虐待，杰克打抱不平，安慰露丝。实验室里，他在实验日志上写下，要用自己作试验对象，他把药物射进自己的手臂，他变成了一个名叫海德的令人恐怖的坏人。杰克隐居把自己锁在试验室里，继续埋头试验。一天露丝在"红鼠"酒吧被一个虐待狂客人弄伤，恶人的名字叫海德。杰克惊呆了，露丝吻了杰克，陷入混乱的杰克把露丝送走，露丝憧憬着新的关系。街上，海德截住一名主教，打死他并用火烧尸--海德成了杰克的报复天使。
